The University of Calabar (UNICAL) administration welcomes applications for admission into its diploma programs for the 2023/2024 academic session.
Potential candidates interested in pursuing a UNICAL diploma are encouraged to review the following information.
Overview of UNICAL's Diploma Programs:
UNICAL offers a two-year diploma program in select fields, culminating in the conferral of a diploma certificate. Successful completion of this program grants candidates direct entry admission (commencing from the 200 level) into related courses.
For admission into the UNICAL diploma program, applicants must meet the minimum requirements for one of the available courses:
1: Diploma in Marine Science
Applicants must possess a minimum of five (5) credits in relevant subjects (including English Language and Mathematics) from WASSCE/NECO/GCE, obtained in no more than two sittings.
2: Diploma in African and Asian Studies
Candidates must hold at least four (4) credits from the following subjects: English Language, Literature, Economics, History, Government, Christian Religious Studies, and Mathematics.
OR
Possess a Certificate in Theatre Studies, Journalism and Mass Communication, or related disciplines from recognized universities, provided they have achieved at least four (4) credit passes in the aforementioned subjects.
OR
Hold a Teacher Grade II Certificate with at least a credit at the Merit level, including English Language.
3: Diploma in Theatre and Media Studies
Applicants must have a minimum of four (4) credits in relevant subjects (including English Language and Mathematics) from WASSCE/NECO/GCE, obtained in no more than two sittings.
Institute of Education:
4: Education Diploma
A minimum of four (4) credits in relevant teaching subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, in WASSCE/NECO/GCE within two sittings.
5: Library and Information Science Diploma
A minimum of four (4) credits in any subject, including English Language and Mathematics, in WASSCE/NECO/GCE within two sittings.
6: Pre-Primary and Basic Education Diploma
A minimum of four (4) credits in any subject, including English Language and Mathematics, in WASSCE/NECO/GCE within two sittings.
7: Educational Technology Diploma
A minimum of four (4) credits in relevant teaching subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, in WASSCE/NECO/GCE within two (2) sittings.
8: Environmental Education Diploma
A minimum of four (4) credits in relevant teaching subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, in WASSCE/NECO/GCE within two (2) sittings.
Institute of Public Policy and Administration:
9: Social Work Diploma
A minimum of five (5) credits in the following subjects: English Language, Christian Religious Studies, Economics, Government, Commerce, and at least a pass in Mathematics in WASSCE/NECO/GCE within two (2) sittings.
10: Law Diploma
A minimum of five (5) credits in relevant subjects, including English Language and Literature, in WASSCE/NECO/GCE within two (2) sittings.
11: Business Administration Diploma
A minimum of five (5) credits in relevant subjects, including English Language, Economics, and Mathematics, in WASSCE/NECO/GCE within two (2) sittings.
12: Tourism and Hotel Management Diploma
A minimum of four (4) credits in relevant subjects, including English Language, in WASSCE/NECO/GCE within two (2) sittings. Knowledge or credit in French is an added advantage.
13: Personnel Management Diploma
A minimum of four (4) credits in relevant subjects in WASSCE/NECO/GCE within two (2) sittings.
14: Local Government Studies Diploma
A minimum of four (4) credits OR TC II from the following subjects: Government, Economics or Commerce, C.R.K, Literature, Accounting, or Mathematics with at least a Pass in English Language at WASSCE/NECO/GCE within two (2) sittings.
15: Public Administration Diploma
A minimum of four (4) credits OR TC II from the following subjects: Government, Economics or Commerce, C.R.K, Literature, Accounting, or Mathematics with at least a Pass in English Language at WASSCE/NECO/GCE within two (2) sittings.
Guidelines for Applying to UNICAL Diploma Program 2023/2024
The UNICAL diploma application process is referred to as the 'CES application'.
Step 1: Purchase UNICAL CES PIN
To initiate your application, you'll need to purchase the application PIN. You can obtain it using one of the following methods:
Method One:
Visit any accredited bank in the country.
Inform the cashier that you'd like to make a payment for the UNICAL CES application PIN via etranzact.
Proceed to make a payment of ₦15,000.
You'll promptly receive a payment slip containing the predegree pin.
Exit the bank and visit any computer center to register for UNICAL CES (and select the diploma option).
Method Two:
Purchase the application PIN online at the UNICAL CES application page.
Log in using the TRANSACTION ID to complete the diploma application form.
Application Deadline
The UNICAL diploma application is presently open. The deadline will be announced at a later date.
